O Banco de Inglaterra admitiu no Twitter que as novas notas de cinco libras – impressas com a imagem do ex-primeiro-ministro Wisnton Churchill – contêm “um vestígio de sebo” animal, o que levou a comunidade de vegans e de vegetarianos britânica a insurgir-se. De acordo com o The Independent, já há uma petição lançada para levar a instituição a retirar a nota de circulação.

As novas notas de cinco libras têm uma gordura que costuma ser utilizada em caldos e sopas. A confirmação na rede social chegou depois de um cidadão ter confrontado a instituição com o rumor de que a nota teria vestígios de gordura animal.
Apesar de estar previsto que a nova nota entre em circulação em setembro, os ativistas já lançaram a petição que quer travá-la. No documento, lê-se que é “inaceitável para milhões de vegans e vegetarianos no Reino Unido” que isto aconteça. “Exigimos que parem de utilizar produtos de origem animal no dinheiro que temos de utilizar”.
Entretanto, nas redes sociais não param de surgir indignações e piadas.
